Junior Communications Specialist

Kaizen is seeking a Junior Communications Specialist to support the anticipated USAID/Guatemala Metrics Activity.

The Guatemala Metrics activity will provide support to the USAID/Guatemala Mission in three areas: 1) Evaluation Design, 2) Performance Monitoring, and 3) Learning and Adaptation. Metrics will enhance USAID/Guatemala’s systems for monitoring and evaluation and learning (MEL) and capacity for accountability and adaptation within projects and mechanisms.

The Junior Communications Specialist will drive development of communication products and events to help the Metrics Activity and USAID/Guatemala to generate, integrate, and share knowledge and experiences that improve M&E practices among Mission staffs and implementing partners. S/he will support the team to package and disseminate findings, such as best practices, techniques, and other successes or failures, in a timely and user-friendly format. S/he will report to the Senior Collaboration Learning and Adapting (CLA)/Knowledge Management (KM) Specialist.

This is a four-year assignment anticipated to start in January of 2018. This position is contingent upon award of contract. The position is based in Guatemala with moderate domestic travel within the country.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce and review fact sheets, success stories, photos and briefers, infographics, and other knowledge products
  • Develop tools for integrating and adapting graphics, video, and audio into data collection and dissemination of evaluation and assessment results
  • Support integration of activity findings into USAID’s external and internal communications activities
  • Plan and provide logistical support for Community of Practice events, presentations, and seminars, including scouting and booking venues, coordinating with partners, inviting speakers and attendees, ensuring necessary equipment, and more
  • Conduct social media campaigns to support knowledge sharing and capture amongst USAID implementing partners and programs

Key Requirements:

  • Must be eligible to work in Guatemala
  • Bachelor’s Degree required (Master’s Degree preferred) in communications, public relations, marketing, graphic design, or other relevant areas
  • Two or more years of experience in communications, reporting, or monitoring and evaluation, preferably within USAID or a USAID-funded activity
  • Prior experience working on USAID projects
  • Knowledge of MS Office software, web design, HTML and other media software packages (i.e. Photoshop, video editing software) is required.
  • Experience using Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube (preferably for organizational outreach or public awareness campaigns) is required. The successful candidate must be capable of crafting information messages in various media formats (press releases, websites, video, etc.) targeting a variety of audiences
  • Familiarity with MIS systems or databases preferred.
  • Excellent English and Spanish language skills (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal, analytical, and training skills.
